Positioning: Give Your Unit Room to Breathe
- Keep at least 10–15 cm of clearance around the condenser side and follow the ventilation requirements in the manual.
- Do not place refrigeration next to ovens, grills, dishwashers or direct sunlight — every degree of ambient heat increases compressor workload.
- Ensure air grilles and fans are never blocked by boxes, curtains or stacked stock.
Set and Verify Temperatures
Set the temperature for what the unit is actually storing: chilled food needs 0–4 °C, frozen food –18 °C or below. Every degree colder than necessary adds roughly 3–5% to energy use. Calibrate with an independent thermometer — the built-in display can drift — and log readings weekly. Avoid frequent door opening and never leave doors or lids open during loading.
Check Door Seals and Gaskets
Warm air entering through a damaged gasket makes the compressor work continuously. Test the seal with the “paper test”: close the door on a strip of paper — if it slides out easily, the gasket needs cleaning or replacement. Keep gaskets clean and free of food debris, and replace cracked or hardened seals promptly. Load Smartly
A well-stocked cabinet holds cold better than an empty one because stored products act as thermal mass — but do not block internal air circulation. Leave space between items and away from the evaporator fan so cold air reaches every shelf. For display cabinets, keep night curtains or doors closed outside business hours.
Service the Condenser and Plan Maintenance
Dust and grease on the condenser coil are a top cause of high energy bills. Clean the condenser fins every 1–3 months depending on your kitchen’s air quality, and schedule a professional service check twice a year — including refrigerant levels, fans and electrical connections.
